Ablakwa Announces Free Fuel Initiative for Commercial Drivers in North Tongu

Foreign Affairs Minister and Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced a free fuel initiative for all commercial drivers within the North Tongu Constituency.

The announcement was made on Friday, February 6, 2026, as part of efforts to ease the financial burden on commercial drivers amid rising fuel prices and the general cost of living. According to Hon. Ablakwa, the initiative is aimed at supporting drivers who play a critical role in the local economy by transporting people and goods across the constituency and beyond.

Speaking to drivers and constituents, the Minister explained that the gesture is both a social intervention and an appreciation of the hard work and resilience of commercial drivers, many of whom struggle daily to cope with operational costs such as fuel, vehicle maintenance, and taxes. He noted that transportation remains a key driver of economic activity in North Tongu, and supporting drivers ultimately benefits traders, commuters, and the wider community.

Hon. Ablakwa emphasized that the free fuel distribution would be well-organized and transparent, with eligible commercial drivers required to present valid documentation to benefit from the initiative. He added that the exercise forms part of his broader commitment to people-centered leadership, social protection, and responsive representation in Parliament.

Drivers in the constituency welcomed the announcement, describing it as timely and impactful. Many expressed gratitude to the MP for recognizing their challenges and taking practical steps to support them.

The free fuel initiative adds to a series of community-focused interventions undertaken by Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, reinforcing his reputation for active constituency engagement and grassroots support.
