Accounts of Bernard Antwi Boasiako Frozen During Investigations – Felix Ofosu Kwakye Explains Decision

According to the Minister in charge of Government Communications, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, the accounts of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, have been frozen, including his Mobile Money account. The action means that the affected accounts can no longer send or receive money until further notice, effectively restricting all financial transactions linked to them.

The Minister explained that the freezing of the accounts forms part of ongoing investigations being conducted by the appropriate state institutions. According to him, such measures are sometimes taken by authorities when there is the need to examine financial records, prevent the movement of funds, or ensure that money connected to a case is preserved while inquiries are ongoing. He noted that the decision was not taken arbitrarily but followed procedures permitted under the laws of Ghana.

Hon. Felix Ofosu Kwakye stated that when accounts are frozen, the account holder is temporarily prevented from making withdrawals, transfers, or deposits. Financial institutions are directed to block all activity on the accounts until investigators complete their work or until a court gives further instructions. This includes bank accounts, investment accounts, and electronic money wallets such as Mobile Money accounts, which are now widely used for everyday transactions.

He further indicated that freezing an account does not automatically mean that the person involved has been found guilty of any wrongdoing. Instead, it is a precautionary step often used to ensure transparency and to allow investigators to verify the source and movement of funds. Authorities may take this action if they suspect that the accounts could be linked to financial irregularities, ongoing legal disputes, or matters of public interest that require careful examination.

The Minister also emphasized that the government respects the rule of law and due process, and that every individual whose account has been frozen has the right to challenge the decision through the appropriate legal channels. If the investigations find no wrongdoing, the accounts may be unfrozen and normal transactions restored. However, if any violations are discovered, the matter could proceed to court for further legal action.

In the case of Chairman Wontumi, the freezing of his accounts, including his Mobile Money wallet, means he is currently unable to carry out financial transactions using those accounts. This restriction may affect personal, business, or political activities that depend on the use of those funds. Such actions, however, are not uncommon during investigations involving high-profile individuals, especially when authorities believe that financial records are important to the case.

Hon. Felix Ofosu Kwakye assured the public that the relevant institutions are handling the matter professionally and in accordance with the law. He urged Ghanaians to remain calm and allow the investigative bodies to complete their work without interference or speculation. He added that the government remains committed to accountability, transparency, and the proper enforcement of the law, regardless of a person’s political affiliation or status.

In summary, the Minister’s statement confirms that the accounts of Chairman Wontumi, including his Mobile Money account, have been frozen as part of an official process, preventing any money from being sent or received until investigations are concluded or further directives are issued by the appropriate authoAccounts of Bernard Antwi Boasiako Frozen During Investigations – Felix Ofosu Kwakye Explains Decisionrities.
