The Third National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Osman Masawudu, popularly known as Chairman Buga Buga, has urged the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to thoroughly investigate and, where necessary, prosecute Baba Jamal over alleged vote buying during the recent National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East constituency.
According to Chairman Buga Buga, the allegations surrounding the conduct of the primaries raise serious concerns about the integrity of Ghana’s democratic process. He argued that vote buying, if proven, undermines internal party democracy and weakens public confidence in elections. As such, he believes the matter should not be treated as a mere internal party issue but as a national concern that requires the intervention of state institutions mandated to fight corruption and electoral malpractice.
Chairman Buga Buga emphasized that the Office of the Special Prosecutor was established to investigate and prosecute corruption-related offences without fear or favour, regardless of the political affiliation of those involved. He therefore called on the OSP to act decisively by probing the allegations against Baba Jamal and ensuring that anyone found culpable is dealt with according to the law.
He further stated that holding individuals accountable for alleged vote buying would serve as a strong deterrent to others and help promote fairness and transparency in Ghana’s political system. In his view, enforcing the law consistently is essential to safeguarding democracy and ensuring that political leadership is attained through genuine support rather than inducement.
The call by Chairman Buga Buga adds to the growing public debate over electoral conduct within political parties and highlights the broader demand for accountability and integrity in Ghana’s democratic processes.
